DRIVER SIDE |
In the
early 1950s, Lincolns were considered the hottest cars in America.
Between the years 1952 and 1954, Lincolns won the most famous road
race of the time, the 2,000-mile Mexican Road Race also known as the
Carrera Panamericana. And they just didn't win, they dominated,
earning the title, "Road Race Lincoln" for model years 52-57.
In 1954 they won the first two places, in 1953 they won the first
four places and in 1952, the year Lincoln introduced its first
modern overhead valve V-8, Lincoln won the first five places and the
winning Lincoln beat the prior year's winning Ferrari by over an
hour. Special higher axle ratios enabled the 1952 race prepared
Lincoln to top 130 mph. Talk about a ``hot rod Lincoln.''
